Setting up a social area in Reading

I needed a bespoke home bar after hosting a gathering where we lacked space. I decided to look near Forbury Gardens.

I stumbled upon the website while scrolling and sent photos. Central Bedroom and Kitchens responded with a price that seemed right for the work.

The process of planning this renovation was actually quite involved. I dedicated many days thinking on the configuration of the space before ever choosing up the device. My lounge area has always felt a bit unfinished, and owning a dedicated area for drinks felt like the perfect solution to that problem. I recall standing in my hallway staring at a cluttered countertop covered with glassware and feeling that everything had to change. The initial conversation with the team was extremely simple, which provided me assurance. We talked different aesthetics, from modern sleek designs to more classic and wooden textures. I was really surprised by how many detail they wanted regarding the dimensions and the current decor of my house. It felt like they genuinely desired the finished result to match seamlessly with the balance of the property. I provided multiple angles in the photos I uploaded, making sure each nook was visible. They clarified that the custom nature of the furniture meant that accuracy was entirely paramount to avoid any problems during the installation. We moved forth and forth on potential resources, searching at swatches of laminate and various kinds of wood patterns. It is surprising how many thought goes into picking the right hardware, like pulls and fittings, which could completely alter the feel of the whole construction. I wanted a place where I might easily mix drinks for guests without having to repeatedly dash back to the pantry for ice or tools. The convenience of having everything in a single place was the main driver for this investment. We settled the design following a brief meeting where every one of my concerns regarding wiring and lighting points were answered. I liked that they didn't rush the design stage, taking the effort to ensure that the width of the racks was sufficient for my tallest bottles. It seemed like a joint effort instead than a standard sale, which is rare to locate these days.

The fitting date came sooner than anticipated, and the fitter was punctual and prepared. He started by placing down safety covers to make sure my flooring remained tidy. Watching the parts being unloaded was interesting, as the quality of the wood was immediately obvious. He meticulously checked the alignment of the floor before attaching the main frame of the bar. I watched as the skeleton gradually took shape, changing a plain alcove into a functional feature. The degree of skill involved in fitting the boards to the wonky surfaces of my older house was notable. He mentioned why each section slotted in to provide total strength. We wasted a bit of time choosing on the exact position for the built-in fridge, making sure it was easy to open but hidden back from main view. The installation of the counter was the highly rewarding part of the entire process. Seeing the smooth surface at last resting on the cabinets helped the project come to life. He next fitted the mirrored backing, which instantly made the room to feel twice the size. The LEDs were connected afterward, and testing them for the first time was a highlight. The warm light below the racks showcased the bottles beautifully. I could visualise exactly how handy this would be for evening parties. The fitter was highly diligent, taking the time to clean down each area and clear any debris made during the drilling. He also demonstrated me how to move the racks should I later wanted to house bigger pieces. The attention to detail was really exceptional, straight down to the silicone lines around the edges. It was clear that he had great satisfaction in his craft, which is consistently good to witness. We conducted a last inspection of the finished work to make everything was to standard. I noted that one handle was a bit loose, and he tightened it straight away with a fast twist of a tool. This thoroughness was exactly what I was looking for when I arranged the service.

The finished bar appears absolutely stunning and has turned into the main point of my home. It provides a classy vibe that had been previously lacking from my living room. The storage is huge, allowing me to organise all my spirits, mixers, and specialist glasses in a cohesive unit. No more do I have to rummage inside cluttered cupboard cabinets to find a bottle opener or a certain kind of tumbler. Everything has its rightful place, which renders hosting much much simpler and relaxing. I love the way the materials reflect the light in the evenings, making a warm ambience. My guests have now praised the design multiple times, with some even asking for the details of the company who made it. It truly feels like a custom extra made specifically for my needs. The height of the countertop is ideal for leaning by with a glass, and the integrated LED units offer just the right level of illumination without being too bright. Even when not in use, it serves as a lovely piece of cabinetry that lifts the whole aesthetic of the property. I used some effort placing my bottles on the racks to create a pleasing arrangement. The mirrored panels truly help in displaying the labels and adding dimension to the tight alcove. It has inspired me to experiment making different cocktails that I previously felt were too fussy to attempt in a normal kitchen. Having the sink nearby would have been good, but the area limits resulted in we decided without it to save cabinet space. This was a conscious decision we made at the design phase, and I do not rue it. The additional cupboard space for straws and tools is much more valuable to me in the long period.

There were a couple of minor drawbacks that are worth noting for a balanced view. The wait time for the custom panels was a little slower than I originally wanted. It lasted about eight days from the initial payment to the actual installation date. While this is understandable for high-quality furniture, it required a bit of patience on my end. I had wanted to have it ready for a specific event, but we missed that date by a few days. However, the communication from the team regarding the progress were consistent, so I was never kept in the dark. I would hold a bit longer for a product that is built to endure than have a rushed work that fails after a few months. The initial cost estimate was also a little less than the final invoice, mostly because I chose to improve the hardware and add more inside lights midway during the build. These changes were entirely my choice, and the company was extremely clear about the additional costs involved. Another minor issue was the volume of boxes left following the fitting. Although the technician cleaned up the build site well, there was a significant amount of waste to dispose of in my recycling. It was not a huge deal, but something to keep in mind if you have limited waste room. Despite these minor points, the total journey was very positive. The standard of the fit is much superior to anything I could have purchased off-the-shelf. It feels sturdy and well-constructed, and I am fitted bar confident it will withstand years of use. I feel the worth it has given to my home well exceeds the upfront cost. It has transformed the way I enjoy my living area, rendering it much more inviting. I not longer sense cluttered when people come over.

Thinking back on the entire experience, I am truly glad I opted ahead with it. The initial spark came from a visit to a friend's place in London, where they had a similar bar. I saw then how much it improved the flow of the evening. When I returned to Reading, I started researching nearby firms and discovered that working with a bespoke outfit was the only way to achieve the precise style I desired. The chance to choose every detail, from the shade of the stain to the position of the power sockets, made the end product was exactly as I pictured. I even got a small hidden compartment built for storing valuable tools like silver spoons. This kind of customisation is what makes the experience unique. It did not seem like a generic piece being forced into a space where it didn't belong. Instead, it looks like it has always been a segment of the architecture. If you are considering a similar home improvement, my advice would be to be patient and spend the effort on the design stage. It is much easier to alter a sketch than it is to modify a unit once it is manufactured. The knowledge provided during the beginning was crucial in preventing me from doing common mistakes, such as placing the cooler too close to a radiator. These small details of wisdom are what you buy for when you choose experienced professionals. I am now planning at different areas of my home to see where further I might add fitted storage. The success of this bar project has given me the confidence to start a larger renovation in the kitchen next season. It has been a great upgrade to my daily routine, and I view ahead to numerous years of enjoying it with family and pals. Finding the right balance between style and function was the aim, and I feel we achieved it completely. The journey from a cluttered corner to a sleek social point was truly worth the time and investment spent. I today possess a space that I am truly happy to show with to others. Reading has some great places to visit for a drink, but truthfully, I now favour staying at my place and enjoying my own personal setup. It provides the same feel without the noise or the travel. That itself is deserving the entire undertaking. I am very happy with how the ambience functions in the night, providing a chill environment to unwind after a long shift at the office. It is the little treats like this that render home living much pleasant and fulfilling. I really value the workmanship that was put into the final result. The way the doors shut with a soft thud speaks volumes about the construction quality. No detail was overlooked, and the final look is precisely what I needed it would be when I first started this process. It is a credit to the talent of the team and the standard of the materials used. I am a truly happy client.
